Editing History in a Demand Plan

Users may edit the item-context demand plan history in order to manually remove spikes. At present there is no automated outlier in Demand Planning (only available in item forecasting where the safety stocks are also calculated).

This article describes the steps necessary to edit history. Editing of history is only available at the item-context level.

Go to the Item-Context Level of the Item History to Be Edited

The item-context level is the lowest level of the planning hierarchy where the demand for an item is derived by a single customer entity.

Select the Period to Edit

  1. Click on the value in the historical period to be edited. In the example below, the selected period is July, 2013.
  2. A pop-up opens with the original forecast value and a box named "Edited Forecast History" where the new value may be edited.

Note: Differences Between Table Values and Pop-Up Values

At times there may be a difference between the value you edit in the pop-up versus the value in the table if you are using due dates and due quantities for forecasting these historical values are maintained in the background.

What you see in the table is always ship date quantities in order to match your P&L revenue. As a result, if you ship later or earlier than the due date you will see a difference for the given period when clicking on the historical period. In the example below, the ship quantity for March 2012 is 3240 whereas the due quantity is 2916 as shown in the pop-up.

Edit the Historical Value

  1. Edit the value provided in the box to the desired historical amount.
  2. Click "save" to apply the change.

Note: The next time the demand plan is run, the new history will be used. The edit is not automatically applied so as not make the user wait.

Edited Period Value Turns Red

  1. The edited period value will turn red to designate it has been edited.
  2. Clicking your cursor over the edited period opens a tool-tip that shows the edited historical value. As stated earlier, the value shown will always reflect the sales for the period regardless of the historical basis.

Removing an Edit

  1. Click on the red value in the historical period to be edited.
  2. A pop-up opens with the new forecast value.
  3. Click on "Delete UD Edit" to remove the edited historical value. The red font will be removed and the edited Forecast History returns to the previous value.

Note: The next time the demand plan is run, the new history will be used. The edit is not automatically applied so as not make the user wait.

Exception: Editing History for Items in the Other Category

Items that fall into the forecast group "Other" as defined in the S&OP Pareto Process can not have their history edited. If there is a need to edit the history, you must change the forecast flag for the item in the other category. This is described in the S&OP Pareto Process article.
